Superior Tank Co., Inc. partnered with the Murray Company to install a new 43,000 gallon fire protection storage tank for the Sherwood Forest Campground in Lesterville, MO. Recently, Sherwood Forest Campground engaged in an aggressive building campaign to provide additional staff and camper cabins, an education center, new dining hall and kitchen, and a new health lodge to the campgrounds.
Problem: Several of the new buildings required fire sprinkler protection to meet Life Safety codes. The campground and buildings are spread out over a very large parcel of ground with varying terrain and little proximity to each village of cabins and gathering buildings. The project cost to provide individual water holding tanks and fire pumps at each building was beginning to seem cost prohibitive.
Solution: Murry Company designed an advanced pump system to use in conjunction with the existing 6” domestic water supply line, which was sensitive to pressures, water volume, flow demands and supply of water. The pressure created by the pump would be adequate enough to provide water for the fire sprinkler system for an extended period of time over the long distances between the buildings. To compliment this pump system, Superior Tank was selected as the preferred storage tank manufacturer for our ability to provide the highest quality fire protection bolted steel tank, meeting all standards outlined by NFPA-22, for the most cost-effective price.
Result: By integrating the new pump system and storage tank with the existing 6” domestic water supply line, the project was able to remain in budget and make best use of design to provide water to each building requiring sprinklers. The utility line, now used as the common denominator ran to each location, serves multiple purposes for the camp; acting as a storehouse of water and providing day to day use of domestic water.
