Company Description: Superior Tank Co., Inc. is a manufacturer and erector of a complete line of bolted and welded steel storage tanks for the potable water, wastewater, fire protection, rain harvesting and crude oil industries. Our tanks, ranging from 10,000 to 2.0 million gallons, conform to the Standards set by American Water Works Association (AWWA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and American Petroleum Institute (API). 

Job Description: Superior Tank Co., Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Engineer in Training (EIT) or Civil / Structural Engineer. This position is based in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. We are looking for someone who is experienced, prompt, dependable, and knowledgeable of engineering principles and practices as applied to structural engineering.

Pay Rate: $30-35 / hour

Primary Responsibilities: Projects will include work designing aboveground steel storage tanks for water, oil, and other liquids to the applicable building codes and industry standards.  Storage tank design work includes design and detailing of tank structure, concrete foundations, walkways, stairways, platforms, baffle systems, and other integral parts.  Applicant will perform a variety of professional engineering work; structural analysis, hydraulic analysis, design detailing, bid preparation, construction support, research & development, and other tasks related to the design, fabrication, and installation of steel storage tanks.  Applicant will work on multiple, unique assignments simultaneously.  Applicant will be expected to perform engineering work requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks.

  • Furnish tank calculations.
  • Research project jurisdiction, applicable building codes, and requirements
  • Interact with sales, customers, and drafting team as needed
  • Interpret customer specifications and drawings

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or 1 year or less out from graduating with degree.
  • 2+ Years minimum experience 
  • Bulk Storage Silos and Tank knowledge preferred
  • Concrete and Steel design knowledge preferred
  • A general knowledge of metal fabrication , capabilities, limitations, tools and processes helpful
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel & Word
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously

Work Environment:
Job operates in office environment that routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  This is a largely sedentary role; however, kneeling, stooping, or bending may be necessary on rare occasions.   

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time non-exempt position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Overtime may be required on certain jobs.

Job Summary:

 Superior Tank Co., Inc. is currently seeking individuals to join our field installation crews. We are looking for someone who is prompt, dependable, and knowledgeable in construction/safety to join our team. This individual will work with a crew of tank erectors in building and/or repairing above ground bolted steel storage tanks.

Travel Requirements: Travel to different job sites including traveling within California as well as out of state.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attention to safety
  • Assemble and erect pre-manufactured parts at job site to construct bolted steel storage tanks: Install tank parts as per Field Foreman’s direction, based on reference points from blueprints, diagrams, and other specifications, using measuring instruments.
  • Measure and mark position of tank foundation and lifts tank parts into place using forklift/crane as per Field Foreman’s direction.
  • Assemble tank bottoms, install vertical panels, by inserting metal guide pins into corresponding holes in panels of tanks and use sealant, bolts, nuts, and washers to fasten them together as per Field Foreman’s direction.
  • Inspects and assembles parts for fit during erection, using hand tools such as levels and squares.
  • Position and install parts on the tank with sealant, hardware and gasket, and tighten hardware using wrenches and pneumatic impact guns as per Field Foreman’s direction.
  • Assemble scaffolding as per the Field Foreman’s direction, using hand and power tools.
  • Work at heights up to 64 ft. using fall protection and specially designed tank scaffolding.
  • Ascend and descend ladders up to 64 feet.
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs. occasionally. Additional weight handling is assessed for safety based on specific tasks.
  • Cut openings for drains, outlets, fill pipes, and manholes, using drills and saws per the Field Foreman’s direction.
  • Able to work with hearing protection in loud conditions while using hand and power tools. (hammers, pneumatic tools, compressors, etc.)
  • Use liquid paint with brushes or spray cans to touch up tank coating.
  • May install mechanical agitators, baffles or other flow divergent parts in the tank.
  • Able to work in confined spaces and follow applicable safety guidance.

Essential functions required to perform duties are as follows:

  • Must be able to work on feet for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to work out of town for extended periods of time (2-6 weeks at a time)
  • Spanish bi-lingual is preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License preferred

  • Repeatedly ascending and descending ladders
  • Lift work up to 50 lbs. to shoulder level or above.
